Waiting for the Sentence
Submitted by Inna Kremen on 7 December, 2011 - 10:23At 11 AM on December 8, 2011, the Oktyabrsky district court of Arkhangelsk will proclaim the sentence in the case of Professor Mikhail Suprun charged of disclosing data containing personal and family secret when he prepared the Memory Books listing name of political repressions’ victims.
Unfortunately, will the case end either by acquittal or by conviction, it has already much impacted activities of Russian historians and archives. Researchers are afraid for results of their work, while archive employees are afraid to say too much, or to give a “particular” document to anyone’s hands.
We should remind that on November 16, when a three-day court hearing session started, young historians held pickets before the court building, carrying slogans in favor of Mikhail Suprun.
