Kazakhstan: Experts Speak for Access to Information
Submitted by Inna Kremen on 17 June, 2010 - 17:50On June 22-23, 2010, the MEDIALIFE Public Foundation, supported by Soros Foundation – Kazakhstan and the OSCE Center in Astana, together with the Commission for Human Rights under the President of Kazakhstan and the Ministry for Communications and Information, holds an expert meeting “FOI Law Approval in Kazakhstan: Circumstances and Prospects”.
Civil activists, officials, and diplomats are invited to take part in the event aimed to develop a unified position on bills “On Access to Information” and “On Information and Information Protection”.
Today, approval of the bill on information and information protection is scheduled for 2011. Not only the bill contents but even its name is now disputable. Civil society is seeking for active participation in discussing the bill.
The meeting will develop practical guidelines for improvement of information access right legal regulation.
