The Council of Federation: Access to Information Is Part of Anti-Corruption Culture

On June 22, parliament hearings on participation of civil society institutions in implementation of state anti-corruption policies took place in the Council of Federation, the higher chamber of the Russian parliament.

The hearings organized together with the Public Chamber of Russia were attended by parliamentarians, officials from federal, regional, and local authorities, and staff members of NGOs and research entities. They discussed possible measures aimed to improve legislation in the field of corruption prevention and overcome.

A number of speakers expressed an opinion that it is necessary to form conditions for promoting and protecting freedom of searching, getting, publishing, and disseminating information on corruption.

We hope that these opinions will be implemented and developed by real legal norms.
