About us

The Institute for Information Freedom Development (IIFD) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization established in 2004 dedicated to investigating, identifying and solving problems of access to socially significant information in Russia. In particular, the Institute focuses on access to governmental information and information about the activities of state agencies through legal recourse and organizational means. One of the IIFD's primary goals is to assist in the process of developing information technology resources available to the public in particular, actively advocating for the development of official websites of state authorities on the Internet. IIFD works to ensure that official websites of state authorities serve as the main, publicly accessible resource for obtaining complete and reliable information about governmental activities.
