Amendments to the Housing Code: Right to Information

A federal law is approved, amending several provisions in the Housing Code of the Russian Federation and in some other federal laws regulating the field of housing and municipal utilities. In particular, new amendments address issues of access to information about house managing companies’ activities.

The new law adds to the Housign Code a new provision stating the duty of a housemanaging company to provide free access to information on major indices of its financial/economic activities on house managing, on works and services it provides, and on municipal utility prices or tariffs.

Up to now, there were only general provisions of information-addressing laws that concerned access to information in question, and house managing companies often denied citizens of information at their own convenience.

The new amendments provide house residents to perform real control of activities of their house managing companies.
