How to Monitor Official Websites: Possible for Anyone

On November 18-19, the IIFD will hold in St.-Petersburg an interactive workshop on issues of monitoring official websites of government bodies and bodies of local self-government. The event is designed for audience from various Russian regions.

The IIFD experts have been performing various monitorings of official websites for six years now. Recently, informational openness of official websites have been obviously increased due to joint efforts of our experts and officials who take the monitoring results into account and amend the websites accordingly.

To evaluate a website, one need not be a qualified expert: it is enough to have a computer and analytical mind. But to perform a sound monitoring, one should have some specific knowledge. At the workshop, Elena Golubeva, IIFD Director, the Monitoring project leader and a qualified monitoring expert, will share knowledge and experience.

The workshop participants will get familiar with administrative division of the Russian Federation and with the governmental hierarchy structure. In other words, they will learn who and for what is responsible within the power, what decisions at which level are made. Legal information necessary to evaluate official websites objectively will also be provided.

Transparent official websites mean, first of all, open access to a most demanded and significant information – that on activities of governmental bodies.
