The Federal Law "On State Secret" Is Amended

On November 16, 2010, President Dmitry Medvedev signed a federal law introducing amendments to the Federal Law “On State Secret”. The amendments were adopted by the State Duma on November 1 and approved by the Council of Federation on November 10.

The new law extends the list of data classified as state secret in the anti-terroristic field, including the following:

  • information on forms, methods, and conditions for organizing and planning terroristic activities;
  • information on protection of crucially important objects and potentially damageable infrastructure objects from acts of terrorism and/or sabotage
  • on results of financial monitoring concerning entities and individuals within checking possibility for their participation in terroristic (extremistic) activities.

Ivan Pavlov, JD, PhD, IIFD Board Chair, commented the amendments to the law “On State Secret” earlier.
