Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star…

When a holiday comes, a lot of fireworks is sold. Unfortunately, not all of them comply with safety norms. Meanwhile, official bodies do not hurry to disclose information what manufacturers of fireworks are licensed and which are not.

A tragedy in “The Lame Horse” night club in Perm (December 2009) arose new official restrictions and prohibitions on firework. But at the same time, more and more fireworks without any licenses or quality certifications are sold. Information about licenses and certifications on pyrotechnics in accumulated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia but access to relevant registers is limited, however under the new FOI law this information should be open.

Seeking for open access to the information in question, the IIFD lawyers filed an application to the Frunzensky district court of St.-Petersburg. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 31, 2010.
